Note: Before upgrading the firmware make
sure the device drivers for your Philips recorder model have already been installed on your pc.
To upgrade your Philips 9450, 9400i, or 9350 recorder please do the following:
- Click here to be taken to the Philips Software Downloads site.
- Select your recorder from the "Mobile Dictation" drop down either the 9350, 9400 (same as 9400i), or 9450 and click the arrow button to the right of the drop down.
- Look for the "DPM Firmware Upgrade Wizard" section which should be near the bottom of the screen.
- Locate the download link and click on the exe. When the file download dialog appears click "Save" and choose a location on your pc such as the desktop.
- Locate the file you saved to your pc in step 4 and double click it to run the DPM Firmware Upgrade Wizard. When the Wizard starts make sure you have the recorder connected to the power supply or that the batteries are full. If there is not enough battery power available the firmware upgrade will not be successful.

- Click on the "Next" button to get to the "Set Firmware Upgrade Mode" screen.
Note: for the Philips 9540 the next screen asks you to connect the recorder. Please do so and follow the instructions in the DPM 9450 Firmware Upgrade Wizard.
If you do not have the 9450 please continue to the next step.

- Turn on the Philips recorder via the Lock/Hold switch located in the center of the REC, STOP, PLAY, F.RWD switch. Slide the Lock/Hold switch up to turn on the recorder.
- If you are performing the upgrade with batteries open the battery cover wide so no part of the metal spring is touching the batteries. If you are performing the upgrade with the recorder plugged in to the power supply disconnect the recorder from the power supply.
- Flip the recorder over then insert and press a paper clip into the small hole located near the bottom of the recorder. You should hear a click as you push the paper clip down.

- Keeping the paper clip pushed down close the battery cover or (if using the power supply) reconnect the recorder to the power supply.
- Still keeping the paper clip pushed down connect the recorder to the USB cradle or cable which should be connected to the pc. At this point the "Next" button should become active.
- Still keeping the paper clip pushed down, click Next and the Firmware install process will begin.
- When the install process is near completion you will see the "Completing the DPM Firmware Upgrade Wizard Dialog".

- Still keeping the paper clip pushed down, flip the recorder over and wait a few seconds. You should eventually see a message telling you to disconnect the device.
- At this point you can remove the paper clip and unplug the recorder from the USB cradle or cable. Your recorder should now be updated with the latest firmware.
