The EMDAT InScribe Transcription Application was developed with the transcriptionist in mind. Over the course of a couple of years, the program has grown into a tool that helps the transcriptionist produce a higher number of lines than with traditional word processing applications. Production is key to a transcriptionist that is paid on a per line basis. Transcriptionists are no longer required to research information, print transcriptions, cover letters or envelopes. Since a transcriptionist is paid by the number of lines produced, the software was designed to allow the transcriptionist to be in a production mode most of the time, increasing the number of lines produced.
