Scheduled Downtime

Most Emdat Maintenance is performed during off hours while all systems are available to our users. In some cases Emdat requires the system to be down in order to perform maintenance (add servers, replace hard drives, etc). The first Saturday of each month, between the hours of 8:00pm to 10:00 pm CST is set aside as the Emdat maintenance window. In the event maintenance is required for a particular month and downtime is required, Emdat will notify all technical contacts listed under the "Contact" section of InCommand.

Marketing Tips!
Since Bob Haugen, our Vice President of Sales and Marketing, is featured in our Newsletter this month, I asked him to give our customers a few basic marketing tips that they could use on an everyday basis for building their business...
  1. Obtain knowledge through proper questioning
  2. Validate your answers received and determine areas where you can help
  3. Position your product/services to address the clients current needs
  4. Use references as proof sources of your success
  5. Show them referral letters from your proof sources
  6. Ask to move forward and validate their expectations
  7. If successful, ask them if they would like to standardize with you
Meet our Staff

Bob Haugen joined Emdat in July of 2006 as Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Bob has an extensive healthcare background starting as a sales representative in 1979 for Deseret Medical selling operating room disposable products. After 11 years and a few promotions Bob left for a start up company called Pyxis as an Associate selling automated pharmacy distribution systems. Pyxis completed a successful IPO in 1993 and in 1994 was the fastest growing company in the nation. In 1996, Bob left to become a Business Development Manager for Symbol Technologies helping to launch the medical vertical for Symbol's WLAN, bar-code scanning devices and portable pen terminals. Bob was awarded #1 in sales in 1998 and the vertical was built to over $50 million in sales by 2002. Bob left in 2002 to become a Regional VP of Sales with MediServe Information Systems selling software specializing in respiratory/physical therapies. Bob left MediServe to join Emdat and has never looked back.

"I am extremely excited and happy to be a part of a very dynamic company. Guys like Steve, Jeff and Kevin make coming to work everyday very enjoyable as they value their employees as well as their customers. We are at the tipping point of something big and those types of opportunities need to be relished."

 Helpdesk Tips and Tricks

InCommand "Update Your Company Information and Contacts"
In InCommand under the MAINTENANCE tab there is a section called CONTACTS. This information should be kept up-to-date with all of the necessary contacts for your transcription company. This information should be filled out in detail including the name, address, phone 1, phone 2, fax, email and type of contact that this person is for your transcription company. This helps Emdat contact you when an important situation arises. Also, all contacts listed in this section also receive other information such as the Emdat Newsletter and contacts that are listed as technical contacts receive email notifications about system maintenance and updates. This information is also used by our helpdesk to contact employees at transcription companies so it s a good idea to keep this information current.

InQuiry "Fax Management Tab"
In InQuiry you can give specific users access to the Fax Management tab (this access is given in InCommand under USERS, then INQUIRY ACCESS RIGHTS). Users with this access will be able to get reports that will give them details on the status of faxes, and the ability to clear, modify, and manage all faxes that the client sends out to associates.

InScribe "Remove Remaining Fields in a Template"
When typing in InScribe and using a template, sometimes all of the fields aren't used on every transcription. Transcriptionist can remove the remaining fields by using the hot keys "CTRL" + "[". This will clear any fields in the template that are not filled in. You can also go to TEMPLATE (in the top menu bar) and then REMOVE REMAINING FIELDS.

InSync "Deleting the Device Detector on new Software Install"
If you are doing a new install on a computer for the InSync software don't forget that the device detector that is in the start-up menu and if there is a second one in the system tray need to be deleted after you have installed the software for Olympus. To delete go to START, then ALL PROGRAMS, then STARTUP. Locate the device detector then right click on it and select delete. For instructions on any part of installing the Olympus software or InSync you can use our online reference guide at http://www.emdat.com/software/Help/olympus_dss.htm.

Happy Mother's Day!

Check Out This Dog!

Hercules: The World's Biggest Dog Ever According to Guinness Book of World Records was recently awarded the honorable distinction of Worlds Biggest Dog by Guinness Book of World Records. Hercules is an English Mastiff who has a 38 inch neck and weighs 282 pounds and his paws are the size of softballs. The three-year-old monster is far larger and heavier than his breed's standard 200 lb. limit.

A woman goes to the vet and told him that something was wrong with her dog. The vet examines the animal and explains to the woman that her dog has died. "I don't believe you", she said, "I'd like a second opinion". The vet said that would be fine and he goes into the other room and gets a cat. The vet puts the cat up on the table with the dog. The cat sniffs the dog and jumps down. The vet then goes and gets a black lab, he put him on the table and the lab sniffs the dog and then jumps down.

The vet tells the lady again, "I'm sorry, but your dog is definitely dead. That will be $600 for the exam." "$600! That is ridiculous", says the woman, "what are the charges for?" she exclaimed.

"$600 is a bargain", the vet explained, "$50 for me and only $550 for the cat scan and lab work."
