Transferring AutoText And Dictionaries From One InScribe Install To Another

This article will describe how to transfer your InScribe AutoText and dictionaries from one InScribe installation to another. This is especially useful if you have a new or second computer that you want to copy these personal files to. This article assumes that you already have InScribe installed on both computers and both are functional.

The transfer of AutoText is a 3 step process:

1. Get a copy of the AutoText off of the first / old computer 2. Create the backup location on the new computer and copy the files into it 3. Copy the files into the backup location and restore them into the new InScribe

Get a copy of the AutoText off of the first / old computer.

1. If you already have a copy of your AutoText on a portable storage device such as a flash drive or a cd/dvd then you can skip this whole section and proceed to "Create the backup location on the new computer and copy the files into it."

2. Open InScribe on the old / first computer and log in.

3. Under the Tools menu select "Backup Personal Files" and click "Yes" if prompted.

4. The backup process might take a while if you have a lot of AutoText saved. When it is complete a window will appear with buttons for "OK" and "Browse Folder". Click Browse Folder.

5. A window will open which has all of your AutoText entries in it. You will need to copy all of these entries onto a portable storage device such as a flash drive or cd / dvd. Flash drives are the easiest to use and are relatively inexpensive. It is suggested that you create a folder on the drive named "AutoText date" where the date is today's date. Then copy all of the files in this window into that folder.
