Document Type ShadowScribe ASR settings

This article explains the ASR options when setting up a document type for ASR.  It covers special mappings, ASR Timeout
and the Edit ShadowScribe Users settings.

Special Mappings

For better speech model performance, certain Emdat document types should be mapped to specific Nuance Document
Types.  If you have any of these Emdat document types: Consult, Procedure, Transfer summary, Letter, or a document
type with no sections that isn’t a letter, follow the mapping table below:

If your Emdat Document Type is a  Map it to the Nuance Document Type
 Consultation  History and Physical
 Procedure Note  Operative Note
 Transfer Summary  Discharge Summary
Letter or some type of Letter  Correspondence
Not of a Letter type format and does not have sections  Partial

ASR Timeout

The ASR Timeout controls the amount of time the speech engine has to create a draft. For a dictation that is about 4 – 5
mins long, the average time is about 10 – 12 mins (about 2.5 mins for every 1 min of audio). The longer the audio, the
longer the time to produce the draft.

Sometimes it can take longer for ASR to create a draft. ASR Timeout sets a limit on the amount of time the system has
create the draft. When the time limit it reached and ASR has not returned a draft to the Emdat system, the draft will be
cancelled and made available for typing. This prevents turn-around-time problems resulting from extended ASR draft
creation times.

Set the ASR Timeout to the number of minutes you want ASR to have the draft before the Emdat system cancels the
draft. Recommended settings:

If the document type TAT is                                        Set ASR Timeout to
     2 hours         60 minutes
     4 hours         90 minutes
     6-8 hours         120 minutes
    Over 8 hours         240 minutes

Edit ShadowScribe Users

Clicking the “Edit ShadowScribe Users for” link will show the screen below. This screen lets you include or exclude a user
for ASR for the current document type, allowing for a finer level of control over documents set to ASR. In some cases, a
user may have a document format that isn’t suitable for ASR. With this option, you can remove (exclude) that user for
the document type but not prevent others from using it.

To exclude a user, select the user from the Included Users box and click on the “exclude” link arrow. To exclude multiple
hold down the CTRL key and select multiple.  To exclude all, click the “exclude all” arrow. To include a user, perform the
reverse. Select the user from the Excluded Users box and click on the “include” link arrow. To include multiple hold
down the CTRL key and select multiple. To include all, click the “include all” arrow.

Enable selected document for ShadowScribe

This option will disable the entire document from going to ASR for all users. This can be used in place of setting
the Nuance Document Type to blank.

For advanced users, this option can be used to disable the document type while keeping the Nuance Document
type mapping. This can be helpful if you’re temporarily disabling a document type. You won’t have to remember
to set the Nuance Document Type when you go to re-enable the Emdat document, just check this box
