Arrow Keys Do Not Function Properly

This article will explain a couple of work-arounds for problems that occur with the functionality of the arrow keys when you are using InScribe and have Internet Explorer 8 installed. These problems include the cursor not moving up or down to the next line when the Up arrow or Down arrow is pressed.

If you are having problems with the Up or Down arrow not functioning like normal try these couple of trouble shooting tips:

1. Install the most up-to-date version of the InScribe software with the install link found here: https://www.emdat.com/software/inscribe.asp There have been some fixes with newer versions for some of the problems you might be experiencing.

2. Change the Zoom level of your document found here:

From testing, setting zoom to:

100% is ideal because it prevents any errors with using the Down arrow key to go to the end of the document or the Up arrow key when you are on the last line of the document.

125% and 175% cause problems with the Down arrow key towards the bottom of the document but not with the Up arrow.

150% causes problems with the Up arrow key when on the very last line of the document but not with the Down arrow key.

200% works for the Down arrow only if the key is pressed and held and the Up arrow works normally.

3. Downgrade your Internet Explorer 8 back down to Internet Explorer 7. XP - A) Go to your Control Panel found under the Start Menu. B) Double click on Add / Remove Programs C) Find the item in the list "Windows Internet Explorer 8" and select it D) Click the Uninstall button and follow the process through.

Vista - A) Go to your Control Panel found under the Start Menu B) Click Uninstall a Program in Control Panel Home view or Programs and Features in Classic View C) Click the link on the left for View Installed Updates D) Find the item in the list "Windows Internet Explorer 8" and select it E) Click the Uninstall button and follow the process through

Please note: for both operating systems, a restart will be required in the middle of the uninstall process.

Unfortunately, these problems have to do with the code within Internet Explorer 8 and as such are not issues Nuance can deal with directly.
