So here’s where we get a little more technical and explain exactly how the Expressway™ works.

1. The Expressway™ starts with clinicians doing ‘business as usual,’ dictating via a hand-held recorder, computer or telephone. Utilizing the internet, the Expressway™ then securely routes dictations to the EMDAT Data Center.

2. Upon receipt of the dictation at the EMDAT Data Center, the Expressway™  uses pre-defined rules, created by your medical facility, to route the dictation to a transcriptionist at your chosen transcription facility (The Expressway™ can help you manage more than one transcription company – ask us how).

3. Your transcription service provider then downloads your dictation from the EMDAT Data Center and uses pre-defined and customized templates—based on your medical facility’s and clinicians’ preferences and procedures— to transcribe your dictations. These templates reduce your final line count, further bringing down costs.

4. Once typing is complete, the transcript and dictation are routed together, through the EMDAT Data Center, to the appropriate quality assurance personnel for review, and then back to the dictating clinician for review and authentication.

5. Clinicians have the option to manually or electronically sign transcripts – which means they have the option to sign documents remotely.  The electronic signature option can display your graphical signature or electronic signature text.

6. Once authenticated, the “FINAL” transcript is stored in the EMDAT Data Center and routed to the referring clinician, medical staff and medical records.

7. Regardless of whether your facility has an EMR/Clinical Repository in place or still uses printed records, the EMDAT Expressway™ can facilitate your process. The Expressway™ can automatically route final transcripts for population into an EMR and/or allow you to print an ‘original’ for placement in a physical medical record.

8. For all internal referrals, transcripts are routed directly to that clinician or their staff for immediate access and can either be printed or viewed via a secure internet access (anyone other than Medical Records will see a ‘copy’ watermark).

9. Based on the transcript, the Expressway™ automatically creates a custom cover letter and #10 envelope, designed by your medical facility.  Both of these documents are completely free because it is generated by our software.  It can be used to totally eliminate referral letters and thereby reduce your total line count.

Whether your dictating clinicians are attending physicians, residents, nurse practioners, physician assistants or fellows, the Expressway™ correctly routes dictations and transcripts to the proper person for transcribing, review, authentication, printing and chart placement.
