ShadowPrint
ShadowPrint is the automated printing feature of the Emdat suite of applications available through InQuiry or InCommand. When transcriptions reach a pre-defined trigger point in the InQuiry workflow, a ShadowPrint Rule automatically prints a transcription to the location specified in that Rule.
ShadowPrint allows staff members who process printed transcription output to see and verify the status of ShadowPrint print jobs. Users who create ShadowPrint Services and Rules can manage all aspects of configuring ShadowPrint.
ShadowPrint definable rule parameters include:
- Printer Schedule: defines when a printer can be used by days of the week or hours of the day.
- Spool Limit: defines the maximum number of transcriptions that the Service is allowed to download from the Server and ‘spool’ to the printer. Spooling means the Service sends the transcription to the Microsoft Operating System to print. The operating system temporarily stores the files before sending to the printer, and the printer may have memory to temporarily store the file while another job is printing. Although this setting limits the amount of data transfer at one time, the System automatically activates printing of subsequent transcriptions as documents complete printing.
- Transcriptions: defines which documents should print based on document type and/or source of the dictation by location and/or source of the dictation by clinician.
- Printers: defines the destination printer(s). Users can specify priority, number of copies and print type. Print type adjusts the header and footer used based on the client's set Print Templates. There are three unique headers and footers: 1) standard, for the original copy in the chart, 2) clinical, for shadow chart copies or physician copies, and 3) associate, for mailing to associates.
- Trigger point: defines which workflow action initiates printing. Users can designate transcription arrival in a completed folder to prompt printing. Additionally, users can choose to reprint transcriptions automatically after edit.
